Terms of service

Last updated October 11, 2026

The short version

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Koyou (“Koyou”, “we”, “us”), based in Nairobi, Kenya. They cover this website, koyou.co, and the Koyou app (together, “Koyou”).

By creating an account or using Koyou, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Koyou. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data and is part of these terms.

2. Who can use Koyou

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Each account is for one person. Give accurate details when you sign up, and keep them up to date.
  • Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has access to it, tell us straight away.

3. What Koyou does, and doesn’t

Koyou helps you look for work. It recommends jobs, helps you prepare resumes, cover letters and answers to application questions, plans your days and tracks the replies you get.

  • Koyou never submits an application for you. You submit on the employer’s site, or click Send on an email you’ve reviewed.
  • Leads are recommendations, not offers of work. They come from public job listings and link to the original posting. We flag listings that look suspicious, but we can’t confirm that every listing is genuine or still open.
  • Employers and job sites are independent of us. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use their sites, and we aren’t responsible for their content or their decisions.
  • Koyou doesn’t guarantee results. We can’t promise interviews, job offers or any other outcome.
  • Koyou isn’t a recruiter or an employment agency, and it doesn’t give legal, immigration, financial or tax advice.

4. Honesty and your responsibilities

  • What you tell Koyou about yourself must be true. Don’t use Koyou to invent or exaggerate experience, qualifications, job titles or dates, or to pretend to be someone else.
  • Review every document and message before you use it. You’re responsible for what you submit or send, including anything Koyou drafted.
  • Follow the rules of the employers and job sites you apply through.
  • Only share information about other people, such as references, if you have the right to.

5. Acceptable use

When you use Koyou, don’t:

  • use it for anything illegal, fraudulent or harmful;
  • send spam or mass, untargeted applications;
  • access it with bots, scrapers or other automated tools, other than features we provide;
  • copy or resell Koyou, or use it to build a competing service;
  • reverse engineer it, or try to get around its security, usage limits or plan limits;
  • try to trick its AI into producing misleading or harmful content;
  • upload malware, or content you don’t have the right to share;
  • harass anyone, including employers and recruiters.

We may suspend accounts that break these rules (see section 11).

6. Your content

“Your content” means what you upload, write or forward to Koyou: resumes, stories, answers, emails and documents.

  • You own your content. You give Koyou a limited permission to store, copy, process and display it, only to run Koyou for you. That includes sharing it with the service providers listed in our privacy policy.
  • This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies the law requires us to keep and copies in backups, which expire as our privacy policy describes.
  • We don’t use your content to train AI models.
  • Documents Koyou drafts for you are yours to use.
  • If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve Koyou without owing you anything.

7. AI-generated content

Koyou uses AI to draft documents, judge how well jobs fit and help you answer application questions. AI can be wrong. Koyou checks every claim in a document against what you’ve told us or uploaded, but it can still miss things.

Treat drafts as suggestions. Check them carefully and fix anything that’s wrong before you use them. Fit verdicts and other recommendations are opinions to help you decide, not facts about you or the job.

8. Email and connected accounts

  • Your private forwarding address receives only what you forward to it. Don’t forward email you don’t have the right to share.
  • If you connect Gmail or Outlook, Koyou uses only the permissions you grant, and it sends a message only when you click Send on that message. You can disconnect at any time.
  • Your use of Google, Microsoft and other providers is also covered by their own terms.

9. Plans and payment

  • Early access. While Koyou is in early access, we may offer it free or at a discount, and its features and limits may change.
  • Paid plans. Prices, taxes and what each plan includes are shown before you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe. Plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
  • Free trials. If we offer a trial, its length is shown when you sign up. We don’t charge you during a trial, and we’ll remind you before it ends.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel at any time in Settings. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you won’t be charged again.
  • Pausing. Where your plan allows it, you can pause billing for up to 90 days. Your applications and replies stay available to read while you’re paused.
  • Usage limits. Plans include limits, such as how many applications Koyou prepares each month. We show them in the app before you reach them.
  • Price changes. We’ll tell you at least 30 days before a price change. It takes effect at your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
  • Refunds. If you think we’ve charged you by mistake, email us. Nothing in these terms takes away any right to a refund that the law gives you.

10. Changes to Koyou

We’re still building Koyou, and it will change. We may add, change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what you’ve paid for, we’ll tell you in advance, and you can cancel.

We work to keep Koyou available, but we can’t promise it will always be uninterrupted or free of errors. If we ever stop offering Koyou, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice, time to download your data, and a refund for any prepaid time you haven’t used.

11. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Download your data first if you want to keep it: deletion is permanent, and our privacy policy explains the timeline.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we need to in order to protect other people or Koyou, or if the law requires it. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you why first, and give you a chance to fix the problem and download your data.

12. Disclaimers

Koyou is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, including that Koyou will suit a particular purpose. We don’t guarantee that job listings are accurate, genuine or still open, or that AI output is correct.

Some laws don’t allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.

13. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost earnings or missed job opportunities, or for what employers, job sites or other third parties do;
  • our total liability for any claim about Koyou is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 US dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

14. Claims caused by misuse

If you break these terms or the law, and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you’ll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with that claim, to the extent the law allows.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya.

If you have a problem with Koyou, please email us first. Most things can be sorted out quickly. If we can’t resolve it within 30 days, either of us may take it to the courts of Kenya, sitting in Nairobi.

If you live in a country whose consumer laws let you bring a claim in your local courts, or under your local law, nothing in these terms takes that right away.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Koyou after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree with them, you can delete your account.

17. General

  • If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later.
  • You can’t transfer your account or these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them as part of a merger or sale of our business, and we’ll tell you if we do.
  • These terms and our privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Koyou.
